Emigrating Norwegians

Julaften // Christmas eve

In Scandinavia we celebrate Christmas eve more than we celebrate Christmas Day, so for us the big day was yesterday. It was a very different Christmas eve than we are used to, but it was a wonderful one! We started our day skyping with our families back in Norway. It was strange to be having breakfast as they were having dinner. The time difference is 9 hours, and it has never been as obvious as yesterday.

That far our Christmas eve was very traditional, but then we found out that we should get into the jacuzzi and enjoy a coconut. That is definitely something we don’t usually do at this time in Norway, but it was N I C E!

Deilig!

After we were done enjoying the jacuzzi, Maida and I were pretty restless. Even though it was Christmas eve we wanted to move a little bit, especially since we have eaten a lot of heavy food lately. It seemed like we were almost the only ones thinking that way, because we had the whole canyon almost to ourselves!

And then it was finally time to go to dinner. We were invited to a friend to celebrate with his family and friends and eat a traditional Norwegian Christmas dinner. YUMMY!! And if we hadn’t gotten the Christmas spirit yet, we definitely got it then! We eat, drank and enjoyed every minute of it. The clock turned 12:30 before we decided to go home, very full and very happy. We had a few present waiting for us under the tree at home, so it got pretty late. Maida and I joked about waiting until this morning to open them, and doing it the American way, but Per wasn’t too into that, hehe! And I am so happy for that, ’cause guess what – there was a brand new Macbook Pro waiting for me under the christmas tree!! So my faithful, eight year old mac have finally retired!
