Emigrating Norwegians

Hammerfest

What a wonderful place my sister lives at! Hammerfest is beautiful in the few “blue” hours of almost daylight as well as in the darkness that surrounds this place most of the time in the winter months. There is no sun here now, it won’t be back until the end of January.

Today we have been to the Polar Bear Society, window shopped, and watched Hurtigruten dock. We were planning to jump in the jacuzzi on it while it was docked, but it was closed today. We’ll try again tomorrow or Monday. Tonight we’re walking out to the meridian column which was raised to commemorate the first international measurement of the earth in the beginning of the 19th century. And since it’s cold and clear weather we are hoping to see the northern lights tonight!

I’m a Norwegian girl who is leaving the cold, icy north together with my husband to find out what’s happening on the other side of the world, more specifically Los Angeles.
